WHY I'M RUNNING FOR COUNCIL

Since choosing to stand for the Hamersley ward, I have been researching the role of the Hamersley family in the political history of Western Australia. My grandmother, on my mother’s side, had the surname Ducat-Hamersley. If it wasn’t for my keen interest in politics and the choice of my second great grandmother, who, upon marrying, hyphenated her surname with that of her husband, I may never have become aware of my historical connection to my ancestors and the Hamersley Ward. I attended Wembley Downs Primary School, then, Churchlands SHS. Because of this strong public school education, I chose to go on to complete a Bachelor of Commerce through the University of Western Australia. I graduated in 2010 with a double major in corporate finance and marketing, as well as a double minor in financial accounting and business law. After graduating, I worked for the late Senator Judith Adams and now WTV (Perth’s only community television station). Every day I make it my goal to help strengthen and amplify the voices of our community.

I’m running for council to increase my knowledge and understanding of government and debate. Particularly to learn from strong female leaders, such as Bessy Flower, Lady Margaret (Hamersley) Forrest and Dame Dorothy Tangney. Also, to provide a historical record of substance for future leaders on which they can base their future choices.

City of Stirling is marketed as the City of Choice. My goal is to help amplify the City of Stirling’s voices, in order to provide stronger debate, which in turn offers the opportunity for more educated choice. I am a product of the City of Stirling. I now wish to use my experience, in order to give back to the city that has provided me a home throughout my life. Our families have worked extraordinarily hard for our right to choose to vote. I encourage you to continue this work by exercising your choice and strengthening your voice.
